For authoring a dozen books and many more articles about the environment, urging us to think seriously about the costs and consequences of climate change and genetic engineering;

For your recognition by Time Magazine as "the planet's best green journalist," by The Boston Globe as "probably the country's most important environmentalist," and by your election in 2011 to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences;

For founding 350.org, a grassroots international climate campaign that has coordinated thousands of peaceful rallies in almost 200 countries to draw attention to the rapidly changing environment in which we live;

For heightening our awareness at Eckerd College of the extreme and rapid changes in the earth's environment through the inclusion of your book Eaarth in the College's senior core course;

For being a pied piper of environmentalism, leading more than 200 Eckerd College student activists in a peaceful demonstration in Washington, D.C.;

For urging us to scale back and to live more lightly on the earth, Eckerd College confers on Bill McKibben the Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa.

For your pioneering work in the development of computer-generated animation, as director of the ground-breaking computer-animated films Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, and Cars, and as executive producer of the films Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Brave, and Up;

For your leadership and vision in expanding the artistic capability of computer-generated animation to encompass increasingly complicated, visually stunning, and unforgettable images;

For inspiring us through your timeless stories of adventure, friendship, and love, and bringing to life unforgettable characters that climb, swim, ride, drive, or fly from your imagination into ours; 

For the wide recognition of your creative achievements by the Academy Awards, Annie Awards, Art Director Guild Awards, among many others, as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame;

For your support, through the Lasseter Family Foundation, of numerous charitable causes in the arts, education, and health care; 

For celebrating with us today not only the conferral of this honorary degree upon you, but also the awarding of the baccalaureate degree to your son, Paul, Class of 2013, Eckerd College confers on John Lasseter the Degree of Doctor of Fine Arts, Honoris Causa.
