The New James Center
“The thing I’m most excited about is that the James Center has so much space for research. I can’t wait to get more students involved.”
- Denise Flaherty, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Biology
Built to the latest ecological standards, the $25 million science center is equipped with cutting-edge scientific instrumentation. Glass walls make the building feel open and light-filled, allowing visitors to see students and faculty at work.
Space to learn and relax
The Center’s nine teaching labs eliminate the walls between lab and classroom. Now professors can lecture for 15 minutes and then immediately engage students in lab work. There’s no need to pick up and move, so there’s no interruption in the learning.
In addition to four well-equipped research spaces, the Center also features 14 faculty offices. Biology and chemistry offices are interspersed rather than separated to foster cross-curricular collaboration.
There are comfortable, well-lit spaces for relaxation, conversation and study throughout the building.
